BACKGROUND
My graduate training drew broadly from clinical and counseling psychology, human development and Indiana University’s Kinsey Institute for the study of sexuality and gender. This interdepartmental immersion provided me with proficiencies in designing research, statistical analysis and psychometric measurement as well as a freedom to explore comparative fields of experimental social psychology, anthropology, Eastern and existential philosophies. Additionally, I have received extensive training in cognitive behavioral (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and, most extensively, psychoanalytic theories and practice.
Over the last 40 years I have worked across a range of mental health settings, including over 12 years in inpatient psychiatric facilities, additional years working in community mental health, developmental disability residential, an eating disorders clinic and providing independent psychological evaluations before settling full-time into an independent private practice in Center City, Philadelphia since 2006. Along the way, my academic and clinical interests increasingly centered on personality and identity formation, and particularly on understanding the self as an evolving, dynamically organized systems process.
As I entered full-time private practice, I completed my psychoanalytic training through the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia (PCoP). This training included a six-year, four-times-weekly personal psychoanalysis, along with extensive clinical supervision.
